Science behind the Chair
Jan 16th
Every day most of us rest our behinds on an office chair of some description. I would guess that most of us don’t give a second thought to what went into the making of it.
Even after all these years of manufacturing, the research and development still continues.
One of our popular lines at Valiant Hire, the Zody by Haworth, can be seen in the attached video.( It isn’t a long video so it won’t take too much time, but it is worth watching to understand just some of the effort that goes into making these comfortable chairs.)
Perhaps you should hire one for a while and see how different you feel after using a great chair.
Short or long term, we can help you out in Sydney,Brisbane and Melbourne (and of course the surrounding areas).
Property Styling over Summer – it can really work.
Nov 28th
Traditionally, people seem to believe that property sales slow down over the Christmas holiday period. Whilst it is statistically proven that the number of buyers looking reduces, it is also known that those who are looking are serious buyers.
In the time poor world we live in, people are now using their time with their family to look for a new home or even buy a holiday home whilst they are on their Christmas break.
We have seen a higher number of Real Estate Agents email us this year saying they will only be closed for the Public Holidays, showing that they are also strong believers that the buyers are out there.
At the end of the day, you only need 1 “right buyer” to sell your property so why risk not having your property styled.
Check out our website for more details on our Property Styling services in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
If you don’t style your property you could miss out on that important buyer!

Freeways to Furniture Hire
Sep 16th
When you think of major infrastructure and road building efforts, furniture hire probably isn’t the first thing that jumps into your head !
You imagine large machinery and hard hats, yet behind the scenes of these massive operations lies a team of engineers and assistants to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Valiant Hire recently set up an office for over 100 people working on a road project, and the project was hundreds of kilometres away from the office itself.
The flexibility of hire combined with the quick set up times (the office was set up in under a working day) made hiring the furniture the perfect choice for this team. Check out the 30 second video showing some of the set up !

Queensland Flood Property Update
Jan 28th
The following perspective is from Don Molloy the Managing Director of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland ( REIQ).
“While it is still too early to tell with any level of certainty what effects the recent Queensland floods will have, we can take some heart from how the market reacted after the 1974 floods.
“The REIQ has researched the Greater Brisbane property sales market and found that within six to 12 months of the January 1974 flooding, demand and prices had returned to levels experienced pre-flood.
“Prior to this year’s flooding, the REIQ was optimistic of better times ahead for the Queensland property market in the second half of this year. This prediction now needs to be reassessed.
“Over the short-term, those properties directly affected by the floods are obviously the most likely to be affected by lower demand and reduced prices.
“But while the next few months may result in a subdued market, and not detracting from the heartache currently being experienced by thousands of homeowners, we need to remember that hundreds of thousands of homes were not affected by the floods which should reassure homeowners and investors that the viability of the Queensland property market remains sound.
“As the rebuilding phase takes shape, and with it much-needed financial stimulus into our economy, the REIQ envisions that the property market will prove as resilient today as it did 37 years ago.”

Furniture in dark tones and tableside lamps evoked a speakeasy feel at HBO's Boardwalk Empire premiere. Photo: Line 8 Photography
For HBO’s West Coast launch of the new series, Boardwalk Empire, set in prohibition era Atlantic City, there was perhaps no more apt venue choice than the Santa Monica Pier, where the creaking wooden slats and historic 1923 carousel set an evocative backdrop. Look at some of the photos below from the evening.

Design encore!
Mar 23rd
Every Friday, the FT or Financial Times publish a column called “20 questions”. The most recent one with the “entrepreneur, restauranteur and father of modern British design”, Sir Terence Conran was particularly illuminating!

The designer, restaurateur and retailer was born in 1931. He founded the Habitat home furnishings stores that revolutionised the UK high street in the 1960s and 1970s by bringing modern design to the masses. Today he is chairman of the Conran Group, which has businesses round the world. Most recently, he has opened the Boundary and Lutyens restaurants in London.
20 questions: Sir Terence Conran
By Emma Jacobs
What are your three best features?
Imagination, perseverance and a discerning eye.
And your three worst?
I’m impatient, possess impossibly high standards and have a chronically painful bad back.
Is good design always commercial?
It doesn’t have to be but for a businessman it certainly helps.
Which product do you wish you had designed?
On a grand level something that captured people’s imagination like Concorde. More practically, perhaps a Thonet Bentwood café chair.
Which business lessons have you taught your children?
Work hard, express yourself creatively and follow a sensible business plan. They’ve all turned out rather well, I must add.
Best non-Conran restaurant for a working lunch?
Wilton’s in Jermyn Street. The snug booths are perfect to plot, plan and scheme over excellent British food.

Design spanning the world

Ron Arad ‘s first solo exhibition “Restless” in the UK displays a retrospective of his work while also highlighting the quirky and fun spirit that it embraces. Visitors to the show can take it all in while also being encouraged to play video games on many LED screens or enjoy a game of table tennis.
Also this week is the opening of the first exhibition at Design Museum Holon, in Arad’s native Israel. The museum, a giant spiral of ochre-coloured steel, is the designer’s first major architectural project. “The State of Things”, the museum’s debut display is a look at contemporary design through all its eccentric branches and factions.
Automobiles are fundamental to 20th century design, but what about the structures that house them? The National Building Museum in Washington DC, is celebrating the car park with an exhibition tracing its architectural evolution. It looks back to the parking garage as a sign of 1950′s prosperity and moves to its depiction in films and television asa place for clandestine encounters and intrigue.
