Science behind the Chair

Every day most of us rest our behinds on an office chair of some description. I would guess that most of us don’t give a second thought to what went into the making of it.
Even after all these years of manufacturing, the research and development still continues.
One of our popular lines at Valiant Hire, the Zody by Haworth, can be seen in the attached video.( It isn’t a long video so it won’t take too much time, but it is worth watching to understand just some of the effort that goes into making these comfortable chairs.)
Perhaps you should hire one for a while and see how different you feel after using a great chair.

BMW 1 Series Media Launch Melbourne

Yet again BMW has chosen to use Valiant Hire for the furniture for their recent BMW 1 Series Media launch. (As seen in our video below)

The introduction of the new version of their successful 1 Series was cause for a big celebration. The use of design classics such as the Barcelona & Swan chairs combined with our stunningly simple Outline coffee tables matched this event perfectly.

The success of this much loved vehicle will continue with the new model, with sleeker lines, more room and more equipment – BMW have made a good thing even better.

Valiant Hire was also proudly involved in another recent press release for BMW with their 1 Series M Coupe.

Real Furniture works for Styling

You may have seen recent articles about using virtual furniture for marketing of properties, however you need to ask yourself why you are thinking about furnishing in the first place.

When Nature’s design shines – Aurora Borealis

All too often we look at the design and creation of mankind and forget to look beyond and see what nature has provided. After a recent discussion with a world traveler I could not help but look for some video evidence of such natural beauty. As luck would have it, a video came through the inbox that was too good not to be shared.

I am referring to the Aurora Borealis (or the Northern Lights).
The attached Video was made by Flatlight Films for www.visitfinland.com and I am sure you will agree that it is truly stunning. To not share it with our friends would be criminal. Enjoy !

The Hydro Majestic

The Hydro Majestic – Medlow Bath NSW Australia
If you have grown up in Sydney and the surrounds or even just visited the area, there is a good chance you took the time to visit the Blue Mountains and see the stunning Hydro Majestic at Medlow Bath just west of Katoomba.

Driving past last weekend and seeing it behind fences and ready for renovation brought back so many memories that I just had to dig further and find out more about its future and of course it’s amazing past.

I was lucky enough to speak with Peter Reeve who is looking after the Interior & Creative Design on the renovation project about the most challenging obstacles when dealing with a project with such an important history.

“Embarking on the Hydro Majestic journey over 2 ½ years ago was not a decision to be taken lightly. The Hydro for me is like a mirror reflecting Australia growing up from the end of the 19th Century into Federation, through 2 world wars, the depression, and the coming of modern times. Everyone has memories of the Hydro – often many more myth than reality – but they are fond and fabulous all the same.

The time had come to stop the bandaids and the bad renovations and think. Time to go back to beginning and work out how to take this iconic building into the future – revering history, celebrating the atmosphere and style that had made ’The Hydro’ a legend in our social and cultural history.

Mark Foy never planned the Hydro Majestic to be a museum, but a living, breathing and exciting international resort – at world standards. We all believe it is time to recapture the rapture and add some more for the future – to recreate a landmark with the spirit of its original glory.

Exhaustive research and Heritage Planning at the highest level has given us the ability to take the Hydro on a structured and carefully considered revitalization. The biggest challenge is to make sure you have the facts right, and to make sure what you do is both reverent of the architecture and decorative forms, but also works for now to ensure operational viability.

We will bring back an elegant glamour and a freshness to the Hydro that will allow it to shine now and into the future. The website is in a basic form at the moment until all our plans are approved, but as our final designs come into play, there will be much more information to convey, and the site will be expanded and developed.

A few key points about the Hydro Majestic:

Many people do not realise that this grand old beauty stretches 1.1 kilometres along the escarpment! (Yes 1.1 kilometres !)
The Hydro in its current form was built in 1903 financed by Mark Foy, the retail baron. At the same time he applied successfully to have the name of the village changed from Brown’s Siding to Medlow Bath as it remains today. The official opening was on July 4th 1904 during a snowstorm.
The site was originally the Belgravia Hotel, and the Belgravia wing was utilised as an Art Gallery until it was destroyed by fire in 1922, taking until 1936 to be reconstructed. The Gallery contained works from around the world.
The Hydro itself was an incredible structure containing its own power generator imported from Germany that provided power to the Hydro Majestic as well as the township of Medlow Bath. Interestingly the Hydro had working power 4 days before the city of Sydney! It also had its own water supply, steam laundry, freezing works, sewerage treatment works and a telephone system connected to Sydney.
Despite having a “Casino Ballroom” it was never used as a Casino – the name coming from the true meaning of Casino : A room used for meeting and entertainment. The dome roof was pre- fabricated in Chicago and shipped to Australia.
Guests over the years have included Dame Nellie Melba, who began her Farewell tour there and Australia’s first Prime Minister Sir Edmund Barton (who actually died there in 1920)
In 1942 it was taken over by the U.S Defence Department and used to house the American casualties from the Battles of the Coral Sea & South Pacific.
In 1946 a new building containing bedrooms upstairs and a Lounge area downstairs was added.

Nemo Chair…

At the stunningly beautiful Longhouse Reserve in East Hampton at their annual summer benefit, one of the stars of the show was the collection of white Nemo chairs placed in a field.

The longhouse reserve on 16 acres was founded by the textile designer Jack Lenor Larson in 1991, and is an amazing place. This year’s benefit honoured the artist Dale Chihuly.

Definitely worth a visit, but the reserve is only open a precious few days and times a year!
