I have always been fascinated by how people live and decorate their homes. Great living spaces don't come from a formula or recipe; they are a mix of labour and love. I feel fortunate to get a glimpse inside so many homes, and it is such a personal place where memories are made. It's essential to approach each home with sensitivity and understanding. I love that aspect of the job - it's so much more than just fluffing cushions and hanging art!

Consider choosing a piece that resonates with you. Something that you genuinely love and cannot part with. That's when your home will form its own personality and come together.
Determine what the primary function of the space will be and then plan from there. Always try to let in as much natural light as possible and keep the flow open, then the form can follow on from there.
The most amazing property I styled was on the cliffs at Dover heights. The previous owners were selling their property because they didn't like how the house swayed in the wind!
I love the living area. You can really have fun with it and create a story and emotion that sets the tone for the rest of the home. You can really demonstrate the potential of a home and how the space can be used. It's important buyers feel an emotional connection with the home.
Art is a big part of my life and always will be. I recommend first selecting a statement piece that you resonate with, and then choosing your colour palette from there. I love how colour instantly shifts the mood of the space. The correlation between colour and emotion is incredibly important to me. If your home is older, make sure to research the architecture and era it was built in. You don't need to match the furniture. You could also choose certain pieces that nod to the era and style the house was built in (this can help you create a unique and unexpected style).
After battling with Sydney traffic all week, I prefer to spend my weekend out of the car. I love to explore one of Sydney's spectacular coastlines on foot and check out the latest gallery exhibitions. I also like to wine and dine with my hubby (he's in the wine industry, so I like to lap up the perks when I can!). Follow Emily on Instagram!
