Quality Management
Our in-house procurement team oversees the design, sourcing, sampling, and testing of products to ensure they have a long and safe life in our range and support circular product life cycles. Our quality control process includes videos, photos, and measurement protocols to ensure transparency and accuracy. We optimise products for easy transport, storage, and maintenance, offering furniture that looks great and stands the test of time, ensuring lasting quality for our clients.
Recycled Plastics
Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in landfills, contributing to environmental pollution and degradation. We believe that we have a responsibility for supporting sustainable processes and utilisation of environmentally friendly materials and have made a commitment to a minimum of 70% recycled indoor fabric across our hire range.

EVALUATION
2018 - 2019
From 2018 to 2019, we comprehensively assess suppliers in critical categories, forming a preferred supplier list. We integrate "Hire Spec" to educate suppliers on challenges and requirements while also identifying preferred materials to enhance product performance.
LOGISTICS
2019-2020
In 2019-2020, we assessed shipping options for cost-effective distribution and risk management, enhanced efficiency in international sea freight through consolidation, shifted to sustainably certified timber from responsibly managed sources, and mapped critical areas for enhanced supply chain transparency in fabric and powder coating.
OPTIMISATION
2020-2022
Off the back of COVID-19 lockdowns, we focused on supply chain adaptation by fostering strong relationships with overseas suppliers. Simultaneously, we introduced a Preferred Packaging Plan aimed at minimising excess packaging and emphasising preferred packaging materials such as covers and recycled cardboard.
IMPLEMENT
2022-2023
We've taken significant steps towards sustainability CO2 emissions from international freight, extend preferred material lists, implement recycled content in 15 ranges (over 3600 items), and set targets for key materiality areas like recycled content, chemical management, and social impact.
continuity
2023
Through ongoing efforts in material substitutions, we continue to prioritize preferred components and materials, driving progress towards sustainability. Additionally, we engage in circular collaboration initiatives, such as exploring opportunities to repurpose sofa legs with a local social enterprise, fostering a seamless integration of sustainability throughout our processes.
DEVELOP
2024
We embarked on a comprehensive sustainability initiative in furniture production, transitioning most indoor ranges to upholstery made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and ensuring compliance with REACH and OEKO TEX standards. Additionally, efforts include sourcing FSC-certified hardwood, prioritizing reusable furniture covers, and introducing recycled nylon furniture feet, all reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation.
CONTUNITY
2025 - Beyond
Our goal is to expand the use of recycled fabrics into our outdoor collections and explore sustainable alternatives to Polyurethane foam and other materials. We aim to develop a preferred list of eco-friendly materials for our furniture and reduce shrink wrap usage by a specified percentage, while also extending FSC timber certification to product-based composite wood and investigating alternatives to PFAS treatments in fabrics through comparative analysis.
FAQs
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why aren’t all Valiant's products sustainable?
Transitioning from non-sustainable to sustainable materials is no simple feat. It requires thorough research, sourcing and testing to ensure that the alternatives meet our high-quality standards while also aligning with our sustainability values. This process takes time to implement effectively. However, our commitment to sustainability drives us to continually explore and invest in alternative materials and componentry. We are dedicated to finding solutions that not only minimize our environmental footprint but also maintain the integrity and performance of our products. Every step we take towards sustainability is a step in the right direction!
What criteria does Valiant use to select sustainable materials for your furniture?
Sustainable material alternatives are subject to rigorous research and testing to ensure that they meet our high standards of style, form and function. We look at a materials origin, the process and energy required to create it, and it’s durability, recyclability and suitability for context of use.
How does Valiant minimise waste during the manufacturing process?
Valiant’s procurement team works closely with our suppliers to reduce waste in a few ways, including providing a preferred packaging list to all suppliers to minimise the use of single use or non-recyclable protective packaging, and capturing any leftover, unused fabrics and repurposing for cushions, bedheads and local re-upholstery projects.
What does Valiant do with products at the end of their lifecycle?
Valiant products are designed to last. When products are eventually deranged, they have four possible onward journeys; donation to one of our charity partners furnishing accommodation for families fleeing domestic violence, refurbishment and resale via our partner, Circonomy, resale at auction via our partner auction houses, or componentry recycling.
How does Valiant ensure that your end of life furniture is responsibly disposed of?
All end of life furniture is sorted into usability, if the product is still usable, it is donated to one of our charity partners Lady Musgrave Trust (QLD), City West Housing (NSW) or You Matter (VIC). We also have a partnership with Circonomy which collects pieces to be re-homed.
How does Valiant contribute to reducing furniture waste in landfills?
Hire furniture, by its very nature, reduces landfill by providing an alternative to purchasing furniture for temporary use. When Valiant hire pieces are ready to be de-ranged, they have four possible onward journeys; donation to one of charity partners, refurbishment and resale via our partner, Circonomy, resale at auction via our partner auction houses, or componentry recycling.
